Smarter Strength & Conditioning

by Brian McCormick on February 17, 2009

Nate Marquardt is one of the top MMA fighters in the world and he fights at UFC 95 this weekend. In an article as part of the prelude to his fight, he spoke about his training and changes that he has made as he has gotten older and smarter. Basketball players would be wise to adopt some of the same ideas into their training.

He’s adopted many of the same training techniques that his friend, UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, uses…and he’s seen exceptional results.

He does shorter, more intense workouts and spends a lot of time “prehabbing” injuries that have not occurred, essentially determining what areas of his body are most likely to be hurt…and strengthening it to a point that it prevents an injury.

It’s kept him healthy and meant less time off because of injury and that’s meant a faster rate of improvement.
