Shooting Footwork with Austin Nichols

by Brian McCormick on May 13, 2009

On True Hoop, I saw a link to an article about the next (maybe) great find by the San Antonio Spurs, Austin Nichols.

The article linked the below highlight tape of Nichols. Watch his feet when he shoots. While he leans back frequently to create separation on contested shots, his feet are always set when he jumps. He uses 1-2-steps and jump stops as needed, but his shot is consistent because of his footwork and balance when he leaves the ground. I spotted one or two shots where he was moving to his right and he squared in the air, but on almost every shot, he lands in the spot from which he jumps.
