Oklahoma University’s Courtney Paris guaranteed an NCAA Championship. She plans to stay true to her guarantee and return her $64,000 scholarship to the university, despite setting numerous school, conference and national records.
On her senior night, Paris said:
“When you’re good enough and don’t do something, then you have to take accountability for that and that’s your own fault,” Paris said last month. “We can win a national championship. If we don’t, I’ll feel like I didn’t earn my scholarship.”
During the lead-in to the WNBA Draft, some have questioned Paris’ ability to play at the next level. The guarantee answers those questions for me. Players who take responsibility and hold themselves accountable have a chance to be great. It’s the players who make excuses and blame other people who remain mediocre.
